WHAT: America’s most beloved cereal, Cheerios, will celebrate its 60th
birthday on Oct. 9, at
Mall of America. Cheerios will attempt to set a Guinness World Record by
building the world’s largest human “O” at the nation’s largest mall. Over 1,000
Cheerios enthusiasts clad in bright yellow ponchos will form the giant “O,”
which will be 90 feet in diameter.

In addition to building the world’s largest human “O,” General Mills has many
other celebration activities throughout Mall of America throughout the entire
day: The video highlights package will include:

·	Chart-topping music group, O-Town, whose self-titled debut album sold
more than a million copies, will sing “Happy Birthday” to Cheerios inside the
human “O.” O-Town also will perform some of its biggest hits and sign
autographs inside the mall.
]
·	The 2002 No. 43 Cheerios Dodge will be unveiled. NASCAR Champion
Richard Petty and No. 43 Cheerios Dodge driver John Andretti will be on hand
signing autographs.

·	Top LPGA golfers Lorie Kane, Cristie Kerr and Janice Moodie, all of whom
are sponsored by Cheerios, will also be signing autographs.

HISTORY:	Throughout the past 60 years, Cheerios has commemorated many
monumental moments and trends in American history. Introduced in 1941 as
Cheerioats, the cereal met the needs of American soldiers during World War II
through “Yank Packs,” special one-ounce Cheerios packages available only to
military personnel. During the 1940s and 1950s, Cheerios featured dozens of
Lone Ranger prizes such as deputy badges, black masks and flashlight pistols.
Through creative package promotions, Cheerios has commemorated everything from
America’s first moon landing to the turning of the century.
