Norcross, GA- The award-winning Saab 9-5 had its strongest month ever in the US since its debut in early 1998 with a sales volume of 2,807 units in August. This represents a 32 percent increase for the Saab 9-5 over July 2001 (2,120) and August 2000 (2,124). Total sales for the month were 4,222 units, up 12.5 percent over August 2000 (3,753 units). This was the best August for Saab Cars USA since 1987. Other highlights for August 2001 include a 21 percent increase in sales of the Saab 9-3 convertible over same month 2000 (570 vs. 472 units). Year-to-date numbers show that Saab Cars USA is on-track to match 2000 sales. Through August 2001, sales volume is 24,340 units compared to 25,133 through August 2000.

The Saab 9-5 Sedan and Wagon were recently ranked as the Best Mid-Luxury Car in the 2001 J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study (IQS). The Saab 9-5 moved up to this segment from the Entry Luxury group last year. IQS measures owner-reported problems during the first three months of ownership.

Saab Automobile was recognized at the 2001 World Traffic Safety Symposium as the winner of the 2001 Safety Achievement Award based on its development and implementation of the Saab Active Head Restraint (SAHR). This innovative system is designed to protect front-seat occupants against whiplash-related injuries resulting from a rear-end collision. The SAHR system is standard equipment in all Saab 9-3 and 9-5 vehicles.

The 2001 Saab 9-5 Wagon was selected as one of the top vehicle choices for 2001 by the American Automobile Association (AAA) for its 2001 New Car and Truck Buying Guide. The 2001 Saab 9-5 Wagon took top honors in the $30,000 to $35,000 class.
