Oshkosh Truck Expresses Condolences, Commits Support

OSHKOSH, Wis.--Sept. 17, 2001--Oshkosh Truck Corporation joined others throughout the world in expressing shock at last week's attacks and offering condolences to those suffering as a result, including civilians, fire fighters, emergency workers and members of the armed forces. The only solace is the strength of the American spirit and the unity witnessed since the attacks.
Oshkosh Truck Corporation is a leading manufacturer of specialty trucks and trucks bodies for the defense and fire and emergency markets. The Company is acutely aware of the people who serve in these dangerous jobs. Serving these courageous people has always been a source of great pride to us. Oshkosh is ready to assist them in any effort to respond to the crisis.
In response to today's trading activity affecting Oshkosh's stock price and to inquiries received from market professionals, Oshkosh noted that it is not aware of any specific reasons for the activity, other than the obvious link between last week's tragic events and the company's leading market position in custom fire apparatus, airport crash rescue vehicles, and tactical defense vehicles. Management further stated that it would be premature and inappropriate to speculate as to how the crisis and the United States' response may affect the Company's future business.
Management will provide an update regarding Oshkosh's outlook during its regularly scheduled conference call to discuss fiscal 2001 results. The call is scheduled for November 1, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. eastern standard time.
