General Motors Statement Regarding Return to Work

    DETROIT, Sept. 11 General Motors statement regarding
return to work:

    GM extends its heartfelt sorrow and sympathy to any individuals or
families who have experienced personal loss from the tragic attacks in the
Eastern United States.
 
   GM is taking measures to increase safety for employees in their work
places.  The GM Emergency Response and Crisis Communications Teams were
activated shortly after the incidents were reported.  These teams have been
monitoring the situation minute-by-minute.  The company is not aware of any
threat to any GM facilities.

    The Company is requesting that all Detroit area employees return to work
Wednesday, September 12.  The Renaissance Center facilities will also be open
for all tenants.  Employees at other GM facilities affected by closures,
especially Washington and New York areas, should check with their local GM
management and monitor news reports for updates.
