Nissan Announces 2002 Altima Pricing
- All-New Altima Kick Starts the Midsize Sedan Market
With Spirited Styling and Performance -
DETROIT, Aug. 30 Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) today
announced pricing on the totally redesigned, third generation 2002 Altima
midsize sedan. The most popular model, the Altima 2.5 S with automatic
transmission, features an MSRP of $18,849 -- an increase of only $334 over a
comparably equipped 2001 Altima GXE Limited Edition model, despite a
significant increase in size, performance, style and features. The new Altima
goes on sale on August 31, 2001 at more than 1,500 Nissan dealers nationwide.
The 2002 Altima represents the most technologically advanced Nissan
midsize sedan ever offered to the U.S. marketplace. In creating the new
Altima, Nissan's designers and engineers started from scratch, including use
of an all-new platform. The result is a sedan that brings a level of design
and performance that currently does not exist in its class. Altima displays a
sophisticated drivetrain, distinctive exterior design, with increases in all
major dimensions and a driver-oriented interior that encompasses both
convenience and luxury. A new 240-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine is offered
in the Altima line for the first time ever.
MSRPs for the 2002 Altima range from $16,349 for the base Altima 2.5 model
with manual transmission and extend to $23,149 for the luxury Altima 3.5 SE
model with automatic transmission. Complete pricing and trim levels are
available on the attached sheet.
"We believe consumers will be drawn to the improved styling, performance
and price," said Jed Connelly, senior vice president, NNA. "This is a great
value for buyers who are looking for more than the usual, unexciting midsize
sedans. The Altima is the most powerful 4-cylinder sedan in its class, yet
priced significantly lower than the traditional segment sales leaders."
Altima's all-new 175-horsepower 2.5-liter DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder engine
produces 180 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 20 horsepower and 24 lb-ft from
the previous generation's 2.4-liter engine. All 4-cylinder-equipped Altimas
qualify for Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) status. Altima 3.5 SE models
offer a new 240-horsepower DOHC 24-valve V6, which is part of the VQ engine
series that has been recognized as one of the "Ten Best Engines" by Ward's
Auto World magazine for seven consecutive years.
The distinctively styled Altima has grown considerably -- wheelbase is
110.2 inches, up 7.1; overall length is 191.5 inches, up 5.7; width is
70.4 inches, up 1.3; and height has increased 2.0 inches to 57.9 inches.
Finely crafted combination headlights, with optional xenon bulbs on V6 models
and large round taillights with clear lenses give the Altima an upscale
appearance.
The 2002 Altima's interior offers a contemporary design that is relaxed,
modern and comfortable, emphasizing a harmony between driver and machine. The
large cabin is designed to be among the best in its class with cabin volume at
103.2 cubic feet, up 9.2 cubic feet from the previous Altima. All major
interior dimensions expand from the previous generation, including front head
room and leg room, rear leg room and front and rear hip and shoulder room.
Audio systems include a standard 6-speaker AM/FM/CD (except for 2.5 model), an
available in-dash 6-disc CD changer with RDS, speed-sensitive volume control
and steering wheel audio controls.
