SKF Supplies Bearings and Seals for Jaguar's New X-Type

    GOTEBORG, Sweden--July 5, 2001--SKF continues to strengthen its position as leading supplier of bearings and seals to the world's automotive industry.
    The new Jaguar, X-Type, which goes on sale this summer, is equipped with custom-engineered bearings and seals from the SKF Group.
    Over the production life of Jaguar's new X-Type, SKF will supply over Euro 15 million worth of products.
    All four corners are fitted with SKF hub bearing units, the front incorporating magnetised encoders, within the seal assembly, for the ABS & TCS systems. The rear units feature SKF's latest design enhancements, including pre-assembled active speed sensors.
    The front struts are fitted with MacPherson strut bearing units with integrated upper spring-seat as well as a top mount bearing. The special SKF design matches Jaguar's very specific requirements to ensure low friction with improved driving performance.
    Seals and bearings are supplied for the steering arrangement and the power assisted steering pump.
    The gearbox is fitted with a range of custom bearings; each engineered to meet the transmission's specific requirements.
    The V6 engine carries front and rear crank seals and camshaft seals from SKF's sealing business, Chicago Rawhide.
    The four door X-Type features all-wheel drive as standard, which endows the X-Type with nimble and sporting driving dynamics. The performance spirit of the new X-Type is also reflected in its technological innovation.
