Wescam Awarded Follow-On Car Racing Contract For Digital Wireless Video

    BURLINGTON, Ontario--June 26, 2001--Wescam Inc.

Wescam Provides In-Car Coverage of the Second Half Of
    NASCAR Racing Season For NBC

Wescam today announced that its Commercial Division, through its Broadcast Sports group, has been awarded a three-year $17 million contract by NBC Facilities, Inc. to provide digital wireless video coverage at NASCAR(R) events.
Wescam will provide its new proprietary mobile digital wireless technology and in-car cameras to capture and transmit video images in real-time for Winston Cup and Busch Grand National races for the second half of the racing season for the next three years.
Similar to the initial contract Wescam was awarded by FOX Sports Productions, Inc. in January 2001, Wescam's Broadcast Sports group will supply NBC with turnkey mobile digital wireless capture and transmission services for between eight to 16 cars per race. Eventually, digital wireless technology will provide the capability to equip all cars with in-car camera systems.
"We are very pleased NBC have placed their confidence in Wescam and our leading-edge technologies and services," said David Smith, Vice President, Commercial Systems, Wescam. "We look forward to fostering a strong relationship with NBC over the next three years" he added.
Wescam currently provides turnkey services for the cameras and analog wireless video systems that capture and transmit the in-car images seen on TV by millions of North American car race enthusiasts for NASCAR, CHAMP CAR and IRL races.
Digital wireless technology allows Wescam to offer customers the world's smallest, lightest weight wireless links for broadcast quality video, while making it possible to increase the number of available camera positions and points of view.
Car racing is just one example of a trend towards greater viewer involvement via both traditional broadcast media and new delivery channels such as the Internet. As an enabler for interactivity, demand for mobile digital wireless video technology is expected to spread to other sports and applications. The company is positioning itself to capitalize on the numerous opportunities for supplying leading-edge mobile digital wireless visual information systems and services.
