Rare Scale Models and Fine Art on Display June 5-14 At the Automotive Hall of Fame

DEARBORN, Mich., June 4 The work of two world-renowned
designers will be on display at the Automotive Hall of Fame from June 5
through June 14.
The special exhibit will include rarely seen scale models of automobiles
designed by Italian Giorgetto Giugiaro, including a Lancia Medusa, Fiat Punto,
Maserati Buran and a DeLorean. Also featured are paintings and dinnerware
designed by American-born Viktor Schreckengost.
For nearly a half century, Giorgetto Giugiaro has been recognized as one
of the most creative visionaries in the world of automotive design. As
chairman of Italdesign - Giugiaro S.p.A., he has styled over 80 cars which
then went into production, as well as others still under wraps for many of the
world's automakers. Noteworthy are his designs for Volkswagen, Lexus, Fiat,
American Motors and numerous other leading manufacturers.
The work of 94-year-old Viktor Schreckengost spans more than a dozen
separate fields and categories, and he has made major breakthroughs in almost
every one. He is a teacher, sculptor, painter, graphic designer, stage and
costume designer and industrial designer of everything from tricycles to
trucks, and fans to flashlights. In 1930, he designed the Jazz Bowl, which is
regarded by many as the best example of American Art Deco. His work with
Limoges China Company in Sebring, Ohio marks the beginning of modernism in
American ceramics.
The ten-day exhibit is made possible by Eyes on Design, the world's only
car show to focus on the emotion and character of automotive design, scheduled
this year for Sunday, June 17, at the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House in Grosse
Pointe Shores, Michigan. On June 15, Viktor Schreckengost will be presented
the Eyes on Pupils Award, at Eve of the Eyes, an event honoring the design
profession, hosted by Lear Corporation, at their Southfield headquarters. On
June 16, Giorgetto Giugiaro will receive the Eyes on Design 2001 Lifetime
Achievement Award at the Automotive Design Banquet, held at the Detroit Opera
House.
The Automotive Hall of Fame is open 7 days a week, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Admission is $6 for adults, $5.50 for seniors (62 and over) and $3 for youth
(ages 5-12). Children under 4 are free. The Automotive Hall of Fame is
located at 21400 Oakwood Boulevard, Dearborn, Michigan, adjacent to Henry Ford
Museum.
