Toyota Announces Prices and Four New Factory Options for 2002 Prius

    TORRANCE, Calif., June 4 Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A.,
Inc. released manufacturer's suggested retail prices (MSRP) today for the 2002
Prius gas/electric hybrid sedan and announced the availability of four new
factory options.  It will be available for internet ordering beginning June 1,
2001.

    The 2002 Prius, as well as its price, remains unchanged from the current
model and maintains its affordability with an MSRP of $19,995.  Initially
offered as a single specification with no factory options, the 2002 Prius can
be ordered with a choice of several new factory options including a navigation
system, cruise control, SRS side impact airbags and daytime running lights.
In addition to the new factory options, two new exterior colors, Brilliant
Blue and Blue Moon Pearl, have been added to the four carryover colors.

    Prius carries an EPA fuel economy rating of 52 miles per gallon city,
45 highway, and an SULEV (super ultra low emission vehicle) certification
which is about 75 percent cleaner than the ULEV rating and nearly 90 percent
cleaner than LEV for smog forming exhaust gases.

    Since its July 2000 launch, 11,434 Prius vehicles have been delivered.
The Prius has been the recipient of many awards including "Best Engineered Car
of 2001" by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the "Sierra Club
Award for Excellence in Environmental Engineering" from America's oldest and
largest grassroots environmental organization.
