Steele takes Lowe’s pole

CONCORD, NC – 5-17-01 - Three-time ARCA RE/MAX Series champion Tim
Steele is up to his old tricks again. The Coopersville, MI driver won
the Old Milwaukee Pole Award here Thursday at Lowe's Motor Speedway for
Saturday's EasyCare ARCA 100. Steele, in the HS Die-Softech Ford,
blistered the 1.5-mile superspeedway with a speed of 183.505 mph.

“We’re finally getting our program back the way it use to be,” Steele
said. “The car is really working well. It was almost a flat-out lap; I
only burped it long enough to satisfy my brain. Now we just need to get
our race set-up better and we’ll be good to go.”

It was Steele’s 29th ARCA RE/MAX Series pole overall and 16th
superspeedway pole of his career. In addition, it was Steele’s 4th pole
at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Steele is also the all-time winner at LMS with
four victories as well as the all-time LMS lap leader with 359 laps led.

Rookie Stuart Kirby continued to impress the veterans. Upon seeing LMS
for the first time Thursday morning, the Bowling Green, KY youngster
qualified outside pole at 182.143 mph in Bob Schacht's Athens Mobile
Park Ford.

Mooresville, North Carolina driver David Keith, in the CLR Ford,
qualified third at 182.051 mph ahead of High Point, North Carolina
driver Mike Swaim, Jr. at 182.014 mph in the Dynatek Chevy. Mooresville,
North Carolina rookie Josh Richeson, making his career-first ARCA RE/MAX
Series start, qualified fifth at 181.745 mph in the Ralph’s-Red Cell
Battery Ford.

The EasyCare ARCA 100 is scheduled to begin at 6 PM ET Saturday
afternoon with live coverage from the FX cable network slated to begin
at 5:30.
