Johnson Controls Delivers Systems and Components For the Jeep Liberty

Supplier builds full-featured cockpit system, seating and
overhead console for the automaker's latest vehicle

PLYMOUTH, Mich., April 30 Automotive interior supplier
Johnson Controls is launching production of leading-edge interior
systems and components for the Chrysler Group's all-new 2002 Jeep(R) Liberty.
For the 2002 Jeep Liberty, Johnson Controls will supply the automaker with
cockpit systems, seating systems, overhead consoles and a variety of
electronic components.

"We are pleased to add our interior innovations and our integration
expertise to the Jeep Liberty," said Rande Somma, president of North America
for the Automotive Systems Group of Johnson Controls. "The Jeep Liberty's
distinctive interior and exterior -- and its unique combination of ruggedness
and on-road refinements -- are worthy of the legendary Jeep reputation and
brand identity."

Johnson Controls is the industry's leading developer and integrator of
interior systems, and the Jeep Liberty's cockpit system is a prime example of
the supplier's outstanding capabilities. The cockpit system includes the
instrument-panel trim, structural duct, HVAC system, steering column, pedal
system, airbag system, cluster, audio system, junction block (fuse panel),
instrument-panel wire harness and body wire harness.

"The Jeep Liberty includes the first injection-molded instrument-panel
system that carries full module content," Somma said. "The design's efficient
use of space helps to create a superior command-of-the-road feel."

To meet both North American and European vehicle standards -- for
left-hand-side and right-hand-side drivers -- Liberty has a symmetrically
opposite design execution. This common design offers a significant reduction
in the number of parts, which helps to reduce tooling and manufacturing costs.

Johnson Controls also produces the front and rear seat systems for the
Liberty. The seating comes in three trim styles, including two cloth versions
and one leather version.

The front-row seating -- with a unique mounting attachment -- contains
rails that are moved outboard to provide improved foot room for rear-seat
passengers. Front seats offer adjustable or integral headrests, as well as
electronic options for power and heat.

Rear seats in the vehicle meet the latest child-seating requirements
mandated by the federal government, and feature a center-occupant shoulder
belt and adjustable outboard headrests. The split-folding rear seat can be
folded down easily with one hand, providing additional cargo space and storage
convenience.

In the seat-development process for the Jeep Liberty, all seating options
were ergonomically validated at Johnson Controls' state-of-the-art
ComfortLab(TM). Applying such advanced technology in product development helps
to ensure optimal comfort for the driver and passengers.

In addition to the cockpit and seating systems, Johnson Controls supplies
the Jeep Liberty's reading lamps, rear cargo lamps and its overhead console.
The overhead console features a trip computer, temperature gauge, PathPoint(R)
digital compass and HomeLink(R) Universal Transceiver.

The HomeLink(R) Universal Transceiver -- one of Johnson Controls' most
successful brand-name products -- can be used to remotely operate garage
doors, estate gates, locks, home security and lighting systems and other
convenience and safety devices.
