ROCKLEIGH, N.J., Feb. 5 Sales of Volvo's two new models --
the S60 sports sedan and rugged Cross Country wagon -- indicate that key
market segments continue to have strong consumer support.
"The pace of S60 sales has accelerated steadily since our innovative on-
line launch with AOL last fall while the popularity of Cross Country as an
alternative to the SUV continues to grow across the nation," said LaNeve.
"While we don't like having a year over year decline, our fundamentals are
solid and the seasonalized pace is very positive."
Volvo cars in January followed a general softening trend for the industry
as Volvo Cars of North America, Inc. sold 8,175 units for the month, the
company reported. The January 2001 results were off 11.7 per cent from the
9,256 units sold during the same period of 2000.
The company noted that Volvo sales in Canada moved ahead 71.1 per cent to
433 units in January 2001 vs 253 in January 2000.
Volvo Cars of North America is part of the Volvo Car Corporation of
Goteborg, Sweden. The company provides marketing, sales, parts, service,
technology and training support to the 328 Volvo automobile retailers in the
US and 43 in Canada. The 2001 Volvo automobile line includes the flagship
S80 luxury sedan, versatile V70 wagon and rugged Cross Country, C70 coupe and
convertible, the sporty, new S60 sedan and compact S40 and V40 models.
