PPG Paints Cover Chrysler Repairs

STUTTGART, Germany--DaimlerChrysler AG has picked PPG Industries as a preferred provider of automotive refinish products and services for the company’s worldwide warranty and aftermarket collision repair services.

“Having the two quality brands working together will improve the ability for repairers to meet these needs in the aftermarket,” said Chris Pannent, PPG director of refinish for original equipment manufacturers.

The PPG lines to be applied include its Global, Envirobase and Delfleet products. These meet all specifications for European rules, the U.S. National rule and the stringent 1151 rule for Southern California, Pannent noted. The approval covers both passenger cars and commercial fleet vehicles in all countries in which DaimlerChrysler and PPG operate, and includes all the carmaker’s brands.

“PPG has put forward a package of products and services that will meet our needs and the needs of our repairers globally for years to come,” said Michael Gimpl, DaimlerChrysler’s passenger car service manager.

Last year, PPG successfully completed a DaimlerChrysler audit that detailed strict requirements for training, services, research and development, and product systems. PPG is one of only two refinish coatings suppliers to meet these stringent requirements.

PPG’s paints and other products were also put through “rigorous testing mirroring DaimlerChrysler’s requirements for original equipment finishes.” Tests included chip resistance, corrosion, adhesion, ultraviolet degradation and color matching.

“PPG offers a broad range of services, high quality products and global distribution,” said Wolfgang Rentschler, DaimlerChrysler’s commercial vehicles service manager.

PPG will work with DaimlerChrysler in the individual countries when planning the utilization of its various products.
