Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley World Champion Jay Turner Enters CompetitionPlus.com Spring Open

ay Turner will have better memories this time when he and Bobby Buckley's Team Bulldog rolls through the gates of Virginia Motorsports Park. Last season, the defending IHRA Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley World Champion from Whitsett, NC., was denied the opportunity to make exhibition runs at the facility during a national event under another sanction despite being invited to do so.

That was then. This is now and Turner looks forward to blazing the asphalt in Dinwiddie, Virginia.

"We'll be coming back from a Top Fuel Harley race in Florida that same week, so it makes good sense for us to head to VMP to make a few more runs and continue to refine our combination," explained Turner, whose dad Jim operates Piedmont Motorsports Park. "I think this event will provide us with an excellent opportunity to test in national event conditions without all the pressure. Usually, when you test, it's far below national event atmosphere. I'm really looking forward to attending."

Turner recently was awarded his second IHRA Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley World Championship at the IHRA Summit Awards Banquet in Louisville, Ky.

The event promises to bulge at the seams with professional participation. The majority of pre-entries remains in the doorslammer ranks where there are now 22 Pro Modifieds pre-entered and 10 Pro Stocks. There are also a handful of Funny Cars as well as a healthy contingent of Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley committals.

Vendor spots are also available and for more information, potential attendees can contact Brian Pierce at (804) 862-3174.

Nearly 50 professional Pro Mod, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley-Davidson's have been pre-entered for the CompetitionPlus.com Spring Open.

This unique event is open to the public and will feature everything from 310 mph Top Fuel dragsters to the world's premier sportsman racers. This inaugural testing session provide Virginia Motorsports Park race fans an introduction to IHRA's unique brand of drag racing.

Virginia Motorsports Park hosts their first IHRA Summit Drag Racing national event, the ACDelco Nationals, presented by Chevrolet, April 20-22, 2001.
