NAIAS Statement Regarding the Incident at Cobo Center On Saturday, January 13, 2001

    DETROIT, Jan. 14 At the North American International Auto
Show (NAIAS) between 9:30 and 10 p.m., on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, as the show
was preparing to close, a fight broke out on the show floor between several
youths.  Law enforcement officials quickly intervened to contain the incident.
    It was rumored that shots had been fired.  Police quickly confirmed that
these reports were false, and that the situation was under control.
    Show officials commended police for their quick action.  The North
American International Auto will open as scheduled on Sunday, Jan. 14 at
10 a.m.
