RAC Motoring Services Signs 4 Million Pounds Sterling Contract With Intergraph Public Safety; Advanced Technology to Manage Roadside Assistance Operations
SWINDON, United Kingdom--Oct. 24, 2000--RAC has awarded Intergraph Public Safety (IPS), a 4M pounds sterling ($6.4M US) contract for the supply of a new Command and Control system. The system will support RAC's combined mission-critical breakdown operations in the UK and Ireland, which handles 4.5 million calls for assistance, as well as attending 2.5 million incidents a year. The organisation has a fleet of 1250 patrol vehicles and operates call centres in a number of sites across the UK."This system is an investment in the level of service we provide to our customers," says RAC Head of Development, Roadside Operations, Neil Thompson. "The software will allow us to manage incidents more efficiently by keeping customers better informed about the breakdown, predicting arrival times more accurately, and help us to reach breakdowns as quickly as possible. It will also enable us to deploy our resources more productively. We researched the marketplace for a solution that would help us to achieve these objectives, as well as providing a platform for future development, and Intergraph was the clear winner."
IPS will supply the RAC with its flagship product suite, the Intergraph Computer Aided Dispatch System (I/CAD). The I/CAD system has supported other roadside assistance organisations in Australia and Germany since 1991. As a consolidated software solution, the new system will handle and manage all incidents, including calls for assistance, the dispatching and management of Patrols, and management of contractor resources. Patrol deployment will utilise the latest GPS tracking systems and mobile data terminals installed in the RAC's fleet of patrol vehicles.
The state-of-the-art I/CAD system will also provide the RAC with the latest Computerised Mapping and Geographic Information System technology from IPS. The system receives real time status information from all mobile patrol resources and uses this information to allocate the most appropriate Patrol or Contractor to each incident.
Dr. Roger O. Coupland, president of Intergraph Public Safety, said, "The selection of I/CAD by RAC demonstrates the continued trend for the use of advanced commercial off-the-shelf solutions based on an open systems architecture. We recognise the commitment by RAC as they join other roadside assistance providers using our proven solutions. The IPS I/CAD system opens up possibilities for new business opportunities as it supports RAC's efforts for continuous improvement in its service delivery."
