NARC is the Northern Auto Racing Club, founded in 1960, and is regarded as the premier winged sprint car organization in California, and one of the most competitive and well organized travelling sprint car groups in America. Sponsored by Budweiser, namesake for The NARC-Budweiser Shoot Out Series and The Budweiser Golden State Challenge "King of California" Sprint Car Series, NARC runs between 30 and 40 races a year, generally between March and October, at various dirt track facilities throughout Northern and Central California.
The crown jewel of the NARC-Budweiser Shoot Out Series is Speedweek '96, a fast-paced series of races centered around the Independence Day weekend. Speedweek '96 consist of a barnstorming tour of seven championship points races at seven different tracks in seven consecutive nights. The series is very popular with racing audiences, competitors, corporate sponsors, promoters and media members.
The NARC schedule also includes the clubs participation in the Golden State Challenge. This is a unique 13-race series which crowns a unified "King of California" winged sprint car champion. The series is santioned and officiated by the Northern Auto Racing Club.
Drivers competing in the NARC-Budweiser Sprint Car Shoot Out Series represent every part of California, from metropolitan Sacramento and San Francisco Bay Area, to small towns in the Gold Country and the central valley. In 1995, 119 different teams made at least one appearance on the NARC campaign, competing for over a half-million dollars in prize money, point funds, and contengency awards. Overall, 17 different drivers have earned the prestigious NARC championship title in the associations 36 year history.
In addition, the Northern Auto Racing Club has developed several innovative marketing programs to go along with its breathtaking brand of open wheel racing. The result is some of the most exciting open wheel racing entertainment available in the United States today.
