New Standard Set For Motor Oils

The higher performance, higher output engines that will be introduced during the remainder of this decade have prompted the development of a new standard for motor oils.

The new standard was developed by the International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC), an organization which represents the American Automobile Manufacturers Association of the United States and the Japanese Manufacturers Association, Inc.

Although not required until late l997, Pennzoil's 5W-30 and l0W-30 motor oils already meet the ILSAC GF-2 standard. Pennzoil's motor oils are the first to meet this new, tougher standard.

GF-2 stands for "gasoline fueled, second generation" and represents an improvement over the existing GF-l standard which most premium motor oils now meet.

GF standard motor oils are required to preserve warranty coverage with most new cars. Chrysler, Ford and GM all recommend GF-2-rated motor oils for their vehicles.
