Masterpiece Showroom Brings 1930's Touch
To New Automotive Hall of Fame
DEARBORN, MI, July 7, 1997 -- The new Automotive Hall of Fame's classic 1930s showroom will feature a treasure from an era when famous people and famous cars reached their zenith in style and power.
Here, in the splendor of potted palms and ornate chandeliers, the world's great classics will be showcased with a different car featured every three months. Drawn from the world's greatest private and museum collections, these classics will represent the very best of the car builder's art.
The Automotive Hall of Fame will open August 16 with one of the world's most desirable automobiles, a blazing red and yellow 1931 Cord L-29 boat tail speedster built for the Paris Auto Show of that year. Featuring a full bar and tobacco humidor in its door panels, it reportedly was once owned by movie star Jean Harlow.
Adding to its intrigue is its story of mysteriously disappearing in Europe.
Fortunately, plans for the car remained intact making it possible to build this replica. It is on loan from the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum in Auburn, Indiana.
The new Automotive Hall of Fame is designed and built to be a visitor attraction
and educational resource. It celebrates accomplished people of the worldwide motor
vehicle industry for the purpose of inspiring others, especially young people, to higher
levels of achievement in their own work and lives. It is a unique "people place" of
innovation and inspiration where interactive experiences and one-on-one demonstrations are entertaining and enlightening.
Automotive Hall of Fame hours of operation and admission: through October, daily, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; November through Memorial Day, daily except Mondays,
10 a.m.-5 p.m.; admission, $6 adult, $5.50 senior 62+, $3 youth.
