Dramatic New Automotive Hall of Fame:
The Proud Product of Local Partnership

DEARBORN, MI, July 7, 1997 -- Curving horizontal lines of white masonry and black glass topped by a pyramid skylight mark the striking exterior of the new Automotive Hall of Fame located in Dearborn, Michigan. The distinctive architectural design sets it apart from its neighbor, Henry Ford Museum with its red brick, early America exterior.
The Hall of Fame's 25,000 square feet contain intriguing, interactive exhibits that tell the stories of individual innovation and achievement in the international motor vehicle industry's more than 100-year history.
Five Detroit area companies were selected as the team to build and furnish the handsome new Automotive Hall of Fame scheduled to open to the public on August 16.
The Ann Arbor architectural firm, Hobbs + Black, created a stunning exterior and interior that creates a new architectural presence in the region and addresses the Hall of Fame's mission to inspire people with a celebration of human accomplishment.
General contractor John M. Olson Company, St. Clair Shores, broke ground in September, 1996, and completed the building on schedule less than one year later.
The Museum Division of Exhibit Works of Livonia designed and is constructing the exhibits, employing a talented team of researchers, creative specialists, cinematographers, video and computer experts, writers, and exhibit builders and installers.
Nightingale Consulting Associates (formerly Slater and Associates) of Bloomfield Hills was capital campaign consultants. NBD Bank of Dearborn coordinated the $10-million financial package.
The new Automotive Hall of Fame is designed and built to be a visitor attraction and educational resource. It celebrates accomplished people of the worldwide motor vehicle industry for the purpose of inspiring others, especially young people, to higher levels of achievement in their own work and lives. It is a unique "people place" of innovation and inspiration where interactive experiences and one-on-one demonstrations are entertaining and enlightening.
