BMW X3

The X3 Series continues with the X3 3.0i, with 3.0-liter engine delivering 225 hp @ 5900 rpm and 214 lb-ft. @ 3500; it delivers a decidedly lively 0-60 time of 7.6 sec. with manual transmission, 7.9 sec. with automatic. The X3 2.5i is no longer be offered.

The X3 comes standard with a 6-speed manual transmission and is offered with an optional 5-speed automatic; it also embodies the remarkable xDrive all-wheel drive and traction system, now also used in the X5 Series.

xDrive operates as follows: Driving torque is always transmitted to the rear wheels, and most of the time to all four wheels; the portion of torque transmitted to the front wheels is controlled by a multi-disc clutch that can be fully open, fully engaged or at any level of partial engagement in between. Thus the torque split between rear and front wheels is steplessly variable.
