![]() WoO: Mark Kinser Extends Winning Streak at The PAS![]() LAKE PERRIS, CA (October 26) - Although the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series' race at Perris Auto Speedway and the seventh game of the World Series were held on opposite coasts Sunday night, Mark Kinser and the Florida Marlins made similar comebacks to win their respective events. While Kinser chased Stevie Smith for 24 laps, the Marlins trailed the Cleveland Indians for 8 1/2 innings at Pro Player Stadium in Miami. Smith's problems in lapped traffic allowed the defending World of Outlaws champion to increase his winning streak to six feature races at Lake Perris' semi-banked, 1/2-mile oval. The Indians' inability to score after the third inning and make key plays in the field kept them from winning their first World Series since 1948. Kinser's 23rd "A" Feature victory of the year pushed him into ninth place in the World of Outlaws' driver standings. Winning in 11 innings gave Florida the championship of major league baseball in only its fifth year of existence. Mark won the Vivarin Dash from the pole for the right to start the 30-lap main event inside the front row. Smith, who also started on the front row, took the lead with a high move in the fourth corner as the green flag fell in the "A" Feature. Sammy Swindell, who celebrated his 42nd birthday by earning his 12th Channellock Fast-Time Award of the year, also passed Kinser during the opening lap. Smith had his #19 Ingersoll-Rand sprinter three car-lengths ahead of his closest pursuers six laps into the race. Craig Dollansky jumped the cushion and crashed into the wall in turn two early in lap eight. Donny Schatz coasted into the pit area with a magneto problem, and restarted at the back of the pack. Stevie controlled the restart and opened a six-car-length lead by lap nine. Swindell, relegated to third by Kinser several laps earlier, had to contend with hard-charging Dave Blaney. Only four car-lengths separated Smith, Kinser and Swindell midway through the race. Kinser lost second place early in the 18th lap when he allowed the #5M Wirtgen Maxim to jump the cushion between the first and second corners. Swindell started cutting into Smith's eight-car-length advantage the next time around. He closed to within four car- lengths early in lap 23 when Stevie almost collided with Randy Tiner in dense lapped traffic. Smith lost the lead two laps later as he tried to lap the spinning Peter Murphy. Attempting to sneak by in the low groove, His right rear hit the left front of Murphy's car, damaging the #19's suspension. Murphy slid into the high groove and collected Swindell, who tried to dodge the crash by taking the high line. Kinser was at the front and Swindell at the rear of the field when the green flag replaced the yellow. Mark controlled the restart as Andy Hillenburg challenged Randy Hannagan for fourth. Hillenburg steered his #2 STP J&J to the lowest point behind turns one and two to pass Hannagan two laps later. Johnny Herrera and the #47 Casey's General Stores Maxim flipped into the fourth corner the next time around. Lance Blevins, who passed eight cars in the first 25 laps, dropped out with a broken brake caliper during the red period. "The Buckeye Bullet" made several runs at the leader after the race resumed, but was three car-lengths behind when Mark took the checkered flag. Kinser lapped all but 11 cars in the field. Steve Kinser finished third, ahead of Hillenburg, Hannagan, Brent Kaeding, Tyler Walker, Jac Haudenschild, Swindell and 22nd- starting Greg Hodnett. Danny Lasoski won the Fourth Heat Race and raced into 12th place from outside the 10th row. Rookie of the Year candidates Schatz and Paul McMahan continued their pattern of racing in the "B" Feature for the fifth consecutive race. Schatz raced into 17th place from outside the 12th row while McMahan finished eighth in the "B" Feature. Donny enters this weekend's 30th Annual Action Performance Western World Championships at Manzanita Speedway with an 87- point advantage in the rookie race.
