NASCAR: Buckshot Racing To Compete In Winston Cup In 1999

Spartanburg, S.C. - The Buckshot Racing team has started construction on a new race shop to house their NASCAR Winston Cup team for the 1999 season. The shop will be located next to Interstate 85 on Jones Road in Spartanburg, S.C.

The new one level, 25,000 square foot facility is being built by Suitts Construction out of Greenville, S.C. and will include not only an area to build race cars, but offices, a viewing area for fans to observe the team, an area for souvenir sales and a gym and full kitchen for team members. The date of completion has been set for September 30, 1998.

The Buckshot Racing team is currently running it's Busch Series operations out of David Pearson's shop in Spartanburg. Jones plans to make the move to Winston Cup and compete in a full schedule in 1999.

"I've become competitive in the NASCAR Busch Series and feel it is time to move to the next stage in my career," said Jones. "We had a great opportunity when we moved our operation from Georgia to South Carolina to work out of the Pearson shop, but in order to run our Winston Cup team we need more space."

"We want to take this team to the next level," added Billy Jones, Buckshot's father and owner of the Buckshot Racing team. "We spent a lot of time discussing what we needed in this race shop and we looked around at what other teams have done in the past. This is going to be a state of the art facility capable of housing a top Winston Cup operation."
