ARCA Announces Truck Series for 1999 SeasonTOLEDO, OH-The Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) will sanction a truck racing series for the 1999 racing season, with exhibition events to be run as early as 1998. ARCA administrates the Bondo/Mar-Hyde stock car series, the Lincoln Welders Midget Series, the Auto Value Figure-8 Series and the Lincoln Welders Pro-4 Series as well as sanctioning weekly events at Flat Rock Speedway in Michigan. The truck division will evolve from the Pro-4, which ARCA has sanctioned since 1988 and will see its final season of competition in 1998. In addition, the new truck series will bring Lincoln Welders along as title sponsor, and be officially named, 'ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series'. "We looked at the 4-cylinder-engined, small wheelbase ARCA Pro-4 Series and tried to determine how it could be improved," said ARCA President Ron Drager. "In discussions with our track operators, race teams and sponsors, the majority was strongly in favor of moving toward a truck series based on that engine and wheelbase configuration." The series will feature 4-cylinder powerplants, as does the current Pro-4 Series, and will still run on Hoosier Racing Tires. But the chassis and rollcages will be custom built by selected approved manufacturers and outfitted with Revenge Racing Bodies, including the Chevy S-10 and Ford Ranger. Complete sets of rules are available by contacting the ARCA Office. "We are excited about bringing this series to the short tracks of the Midwest in 1999," said ARCA Touring Series Director Jim Clarke. "We believe the growth potential and fan support for such a series exists. It is apparent that racers, promoters and sponsors are going to give this new touring series a serious look, and we at ARCA will be working to see that it is successful." The ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series will stage its first-ever exhibition race at the ¼-mile Flat Rock Speedway on July 4, 1998 in conjunction with the Pro-4 Series event there. The initial full season of 1999 calls for 30-35 lap main events paying $1,000 to the winner and $150 to start.
