Cale Yarborough Hires Greg Sacks For 1998

Concord, NC - NASCAR Legend Cale Yarborough enjoyed great success on NASCAR's WInston Cup circuit in 1997. Yarborough's team scored one pole in May at Talladega, and scored the team's first WInston Cup victory at the famed Daytona International Speedway's mid-summer classic, the Pepsi 400.

Yarborough strengthens his potent operation for 1998, naming former Daytona winner Greg Sacks to drive his Ford Taurus in 1998. Sacks, winner of the 1985 Pepsi 400, joins Cale Yarborough Motorsports (CYM) with over 250 Winston Cup starts, one WInston Cup Pole and victory. The journeyman driver has played the role of fill-in for a number of teams in 1997, with his season's best start of 4th coming at the Pocono International Raceway. Besides Sacks' lone Winston Cup victory, the Mattituck, New York, native won a NASCAR Busch Series event at the Talladega Superspeedway in 1996, as well as numerous short track championships in his formative racing years.

Yarborough also named Mike Hillman of Lockport, NY, to the post of Crew Chief for the #98 Ford. The 44-year old Hillman brings 20 years of racing experience to the table at CYM. Hillman worked with Sacks at Team Sabco during the second half of 1997. The duo of Sacks and Hillman showed early chemistry at Team Sabco and are excited to continue working together in 1998. Hillman's career as a Crew Chief began in 1993 with Jimmy Horton, followed with stints as top wrench for Dick Trickle, Jimmy Hensley, Chuck Bown and Bobby Hillin.

The NASCAR legend is expected to name the team's new sponsor shortly, pulling together a championship package for the 1998 NASCAR Winston Cup season.

Cale Yarborough said, "I am happy to have Greg Sacks and Mike Hillman as the driver and crew chief for CYM. With this combination and the fine people already working at CYM, we will continue to climb the ladder to the top of the Winston Cup circuit."
