Boat Fastest For Second Day In A Row

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA., -- Billy Boat turned a fast lap at 22.132 seconds, 162.660 miles an hour, during the second day of a rain-shortened Indy Racing League open test at Walt Disney World Speedway. Eleven drivers circled the track for a total of 156 laps during the one hour of on track time. Testing began at 2 p.m. and ended at 3 p.m. due to rain.

Brian Barnhart, IRLdirector of racing operations, said that the IRL's open test, scheduled to conclude on Thursday, would be extended an extra day due to the rain. Thursday will be open to all teams for testing, with Friday reserved for private Goodyear and Firestone tire tests.

At 2:40 p.m. Greg Ray, in the Thomas Knapp Motorsports car, went high in Turn 2, spun and hit the Turn 2 wall with the left rear of the car. The car sustained extensive rear end damage. Ray was examined and released to drive by IRL Medical Director Dr. Henry Bock.

TelX Sports will provide a satellite uplink with IRL open test highlights from 2 - 2:15 p.m. (EDT) on Thursday, December 11 on TelStar 5, Transponder 24.

QUOTES:

BUDDY LAZIER: "We went out today, warmed the car up and then came back in to check everything. We made some changes, and were getting ready to go back out when the crash occurred. Then it started raining. We weren't even working on going fast today -- just making set-up changes."

ROBERTO GUERRERO: "Our increase in speed today was quite simple actually. Yesterday we were working on the car and making a lot of changes but the speed was still far away. At the end of the day we looked at the data and were six miles an hour slower than we were here last year, so we changed the engine and went back out today. It was a huge difference, we actually never got a clear lap so we have the potential to do much more tomorrow."
