Penske Motorsports Announces Executive Appointments
Skuza, 37, has been with the Penske organization for 11 years, the last two years as Corporate Sales Director for Michigan Speedway. He will oversee all administrative, marketing and operational activities at the Homestead Motorsports Complex. Prior to joining PMI, he held the position of Marketing Representative for Penske Truck Leasing where he was a three-time inductee into the "Winners Circle" for outstanding sales achievement. Bland, 28, has served as the Marketing Manager for California Speedway since December of 1996. He will be responsible for corporate sponsorship, hospitality and event promotions. Prior to joining PMI, he was Director of Marketing for Ritz Entertainment, a California-based company. Skuza and Bland will begin their new responsibilities effective January 5, 1998. In other personnel moves, Jay Lucas has been named Director of Public Relations for PMI, Pete Merkel, Director of Corporate Sales, Michigan Speedway and Tony Nagorsen, Director of Corporate Sales, Michigan Speedway. Lucas, 40, will coordinate the public and media relations activities for the various Penske facilities that includes a unified strategy in the release of information, publications and brand identity. He will continue to serve as the Director of Public Relations for California Speedway. Lucas joined PMI in 1996 after serving 10 years in the Los Angeles Dodgers' organization, the last seven years as Director of Publicity. Merkel, 27, has been with PMI for five years, the last three years as Corporate Sales Executive. Merkel, who begins his new duties effective January 5, 1998, will oversee the corporate sales department, sponsor relations, developing new sponsorships and special event opportunities, and the coordination of all sponsor and hospitality activities during race events. He will also oversee all Internet Communications for Penske Motorsports, Inc. Nagorsen, 46, will also manage the marketing efforts for Michigan Speedway beginning January 5, 1998. He joined Penske Corporation in January of 1992 as Vice President of Sales for Penske Performance/Motorsports International and was named Vice President/General Manager, Motorsports International in January of 1994. He will continue as Vice President for Motorsports International. Prior to joining the Penske organization he served as Broadcast and Marketing Director for the Detroit Red Wings.
