Indy Lights: Lucas Place Motorsports Announces 1998 Driver Lineup
Lucas Place Motorsports is proud to announce that Brian Cunningham and Geoff Boss will pilot our two Indy Lights entries during the 1998 season.
Brian Cunningham competed in the last three races of the 1997 season for Lucas Place with a seventh place finish at Laguna Seca as his best result. Cunningham,
from Lexington, Kentucky, also led ten laps during the season finale at Fontana before crashing while battling for the lead with Casey Mears and David
Empringham.
Barber-Dodge Pro Series graduate Geoff Boss earned a third place finish at Detroit as his best finish during his rookie campaign in Indy Lights last season. Boss
won two Barber-Dodge Pro Series races during the 1996 season and three in a 1995 campaign that allowed him to finish as runner-up in the championship.
Lucas Place Motorsports will begin an aggressive off-season testing program next week at Firebird International Raceway and Phoenix International Raceway. The
team plans to test both drivers for four days on the Firebird International Raceway road course and two days on the one-mile Phoenix International Raceway oval.
"We are very excited about the potential of our two drivers for the upcoming season," said Eric Place. "I feel that we should be in position to win races and be
championship contenders this year. Last season, being our first, was a difficult development year, but I think that we can learn a lot from our experiences and build
from there. It definitely makes us feel good to know that we will continue to have support from LCI and Exide Electronics with us throughout 1998."
Lucas Place Motorsports is also excited to announce that it will display the Crane and Shovel Sales logo in 1998. Crane and Shovel Sales is a Cleveland based
distributor for Manitowac cranes.
