Conseco/A.J. Foyt Racing and Billy Boat Practice Notes, Wednesday, May 13

13 May 1998

* In the No. 11T Conseco/A.J. Foyt Racing car, Billy recorded 12 laps with a fast speed of 221.691 mph. This fast speed was set at 12:41 p.m... In the No. 11 Conseco/A.J. Foyt Racing car, Billy Boat recorded 17 laps with a fast speed of 220.751 mph... His speeds were ranked first and third quickest of the day.

* Billy Boat: "The thing that helped me the most today was talking to A.J. last night about the different lines that you can take around this race track. With all the cars that have run this month there is a lot more rubber down and a lot more grooves. I was having a little trouble finding the right line. That's the benefit of having a four-time winner as your team owner, he's not shy about telling you what you do wrong."

* A.J. Foyt: "You always want to run faster, but we are kind of happy because we have been going out in the heat of the day. I just feel as long as we can stay right there, qualifying is one thing but we're here for the race. Our goal is to try to qualify as well as possible and also to win the race. That's the reason we've been doing all of this running in the middle of the day at race time."
