FCA Canada to stop third shift at Windsor Assembly Plant, cutting 1,500 jobs
Windsor March 28, 2019; Chris Thompson, Windsor Star reported that sluggish sales of the Windsor-built Chrysler Pacifica have prompted Fiat Chrysler Automobiles to eliminate the third shift at the Windsor Assembly Plant and with it about 1,500 jobs and hundreds of others at feeder plants.
It will be the first time the plant has operated with just two shifts since 1993.
“It’s devastating,” said a visibly emotional Unifor Local 444 president Dave Cassidy at a Thursday afternoon news conference at the Turner Road union hall.
“It’s devastating for everybody.”
