General Motors Co said on Monday it will cut production of slow-selling models and slash its North American workforce in the face of a declining market for traditional gas-powered sedans, shifting more investment to electric and autonomous vehicles.

Carlos Ghosn has hired U.S.-based law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison to defend himself against allegations of financial misconduct in Japan, a person familiar with the matter said. Mr. Ghosn, who leads French auto giant Renault SA as chairman and chief executive, and who formerly served as Nissan Motor Co. chairman, has been detained in a Tokyo detention facility since Monday.
