REDMOND, Wash.—Kymeta, the company delivering on the promise of global, mobile connectivity, announced today live drive experiences in their Ky2, satellite-connected RAV4, during Telematics Update Detroit June 7-8, 2017. Press, technology and automotive partners can experience firsthand how high-throughput mobile access is driving dramatic advancements for connected cars in personalized driving demonstrations. The Ky2 is equipped with a Kymeta KyWay™ terminal, featuring mTenna™ technology and KĀLO global access services. Mobile communications solutions from Kymeta will deliver applications, firmware over-the-air (FOTA), software over-the-air (SOTA), telematics information and infotainment globally – providing reliable, mobile connectivity anywhere you can see the sky.

“What you will see today is Kymeta’s first product providing a full living room-like entertainment experience and high bandwidth in-office capabilities in a moving car,” said Tom Freeman, Senior Vice President Land Mobile, Kymeta. “This is a first for consumer automobiles. Even more exciting, automotive OEMs can now be assured that all their vehicles will soon be safe and secure with the latest software updates delivered globally, securely, and cost effectively. In the Ky2 RAV4, we have mounted the Kymeta KyWay terminal on top of the vehicle. Ultimately, the terminal will shrink to only 20 CM and be fully embedded between the headliner and the roof of a vehicle.”

“There are a wide range of challenges facing the automotive industry today, in particular when it comes to connectivity,” said Dr. Nathan Kundtz, Founder, President and CEO, Kymeta Corporation. “With Kymeta, there’s this massive amount of capacity available for the first time on mobile platforms. But it doesn’t just stop there. That capacity is also global. It’s something that can touch every corner of the world, which means that you don’t need to worry about what country you’re in, or whether you are on the ocean, or in the air. That capacity can be provided anywhere.”

David Lamme of Kymeta’s Government Solutions team, has driven over 6,000 miles across America using Skype video conferencing, Netflix streaming video, cloud-based applications and cloud-based office productivity tools, voice recognition search and the internet all along the way. Ky2 has had excellent connectivity in areas of spotty terrestrial coverage and mobile network dead zones. Throughout the drive, the team has been testing coverage along the way with cellular side-by-side with satellite connectivity. With cellular, the revelation is that having bars does not equate to having a high-throughput connection. There have been many places where there are bars for cellular, yet no ability to even connect to the internet. In contrast, a satellite connection is there wherever you can see the sky and it is always a high bandwidth connection.

The Ky2 RAV4 will be featured at major industry events like the Memorial Day Concert in Washington D.C. and Telematics Update Automotive Detroit in June, visiting customers all over the United States along the way. Tom Freeman will present “Beyond 5G – Delivering the Radically Connected and Safe Car Experience” at Telematics Update Detroit, on June 7 from 12:10 PM – 12:30 PM. Follow the entire journey and experience connectivity on the move by following #KyTrek on social media.

About Kymeta

What’s the missing link to connecting billions of people to high-speed mobile access? Antennas. And Kymeta offers the world’s only commercially viable electronically scanning satellite antennas and terminals. Kymeta antennas and terminals deliver high-throughput communications for land, sea and air, making mobile connectivity as available as a view of the sky. Plus, the world’s largest satellite operator, Intelsat, has joined forces with Kymeta to deliver KĀLO global access services that combine with Kymeta antennas and terminals to provide revolutionary mobile connectivity. Without Kymeta mTenna technology, connecting and staying connected to all those new satellites while on the move will be difficult, if not impossible.

If it moves, Kymeta will keep it connected. Anywhere. For more information, visit kymetacorp.com and KALO.net.
