MIDDLETOWN, Pa.—Visitors to the first-ever AutoMobili-D at the 2017 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) can get a preview of the high power charging (HPC) system at the Phoenix Contact E-Mobility booth (#24). Phoenix Contact is one of the companies leading the development of the CCS plus standard, which will give electric vehicles a 60-mile charge in just five minutes.

AutoMobili-D runs from January 8 through 12 in the Cobo Center’s Atrium and Planet M Hall. More than 120 companies will showcase the latest innovations in five key mobility areas: Autonomous Driving, Connected Car Technologies, E-Mobility, Mobility Services, and Urban Mobility.

“Phoenix Contact E-Mobility is honored to be a part of the inaugural AutoMobili-D during the NAIAS. The exciting changes in our industry – including vehicle electrification and autonomous driving – provide numerous opportunities in the growth of the infrastructure, continued leadership, and ongoing renaissance of the Motor City,” said Vince Carioti, Director E-Mobility North America. “As the market for electric vehicles grows in North America and around the world, Phoenix Contact E-Mobility will take a leadership role in the growth of the industry and development of new technologies.”

Phoenix Contact offers an extensive range of electronic components for charging stations and the charging infrastructure, as well as charging inlets for electric and plug-in-hybrid vehicles. “By doing so, Phoenix Contact is in the unique position to perfectly match the requirements of the automotive industry with the demand of the quickly developing charging infrastructure network,” said Oliver Stöckl, Executive Vice President of Phoenix Contact E-Mobility GmbH, Germany.

Jack Nehlig, president of Phoenix Contact USA, said, “Thanks to Phoenix Contact’s rich history of connection technology and deep technological experience in complex power applications, we have the expertise to support the manufacture of electric vehicles and the infrastructure they require. AutoMobili-D is the perfect venue to showcase our e-mobility solutions.”

In 2013, Phoenix Contact founded Phoenix Contact E-Mobility GmbH, in Schieder-Schwalenberg, Germany, to address the emerging electric mobility industry. In November 2016, Carioti was named as Director E-Mobility North America. In this role, he directs the company’s e-mobility efforts in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, while cooperating with the Phoenix Contact USA sales subsidiary for local sales and technical support. The e-mobility business is based at Phoenix Contact’s Customer and Technology Center in Ann Arbor, Mich. The 27,000-square-foot building is home to Phoenix Contact’s software development and has a strategic focus on the automotive industry.

“Phoenix Contact’s decision to locate the epicenter of its e-mobility North America operations in the Ann Arbor region is another proof point of our appeal to global innovators in this emerging space,” said Paul Krutko, president and CEO of Ann Arbor SPARK. “Ann Arbor is a mobility capital that offers the resources and research that are driving the industry forward. It’s exciting that Phoenix Contact is choosing to invest here, and be part of the growing number of businesses here that are our automotive future.”
