M1 GT RacingÂ’s Dion Von Moltke Completes Test in Audi DTM at Jerez
“With his PWC Pro SprintX Title, M1 GT Racing driver gets Audi test”

December 8, 2016 – Brooksville, Florida – At the end of the 2016 Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) SprintX season, one driver stood atop the rest in the Pro SprintX point battle as Dion von Moltke, piloting the M1 GT Racing Audi R8 LMS, took the honors. Courtesy of his championship winning season as well as being part of the M1 GT Racing Audi Sport customer racing program, the Florida resident and newly crowned champion was awarded a test in the Audi RS DTM car overseas.

On the strength of three podium results, the Pro SprintX championship title all while assisting M1 GT Racing to Vice-Championship honors in the PWC SprintX Team Championship, von Moltke was invited and traveled to Jerez, Spain in late November to showcase his skills behind the wheel of the race winning Audi.

“It was such a special opportunity to test the Audi Sport DTM car,” explained Dion von Moltke. “I have an immense amount of respect for everyone competing in that championship, as I believe the drivers there are some of the very best in the world. The DTM car was an amazing machine, very violently different than the Audi R8 LMS GT3 car. I knew the car was going to be fast, but the level of downforce it has really blew me away. To really start getting lap time out of the car you have to have a really high level of commitment, so to have Audi Sport DTM driver Jamie Green there helping me adjust in a quick amount of time was really helpful.”

Dion continued, “This year M1 GT Racing gave me the opportunity to join them for the SprintX championship, where we won the pro championship. For manufacturers, winning championships is a very important thing, so M1 GT Racing played an instrumental role in giving me what I needed to show what I can do. It shows that there are a lot of eyes watching GT3 racing around the world, and that if a driver is exceeding there he can gain attention from manufacturers. I really want to thank Audi Sport, and everyone at M1 GT Racing for big opportunities. To become only the second American to drive a DTM car in the modern era is very special, it’s a memory I will never forget!”

With a race win to close out the 2016 season at the FARA USA Miami 500, M1 GT Racing has quickly begun preparations for the 2017 season. With a test scheduled for December 20 at NOLA Motorsports Park, the Audi team will focus on their driver lineup for the Pirelli World Challenge SprintX Championship. With one seat open for a qualified driver for the 2017 season, any interested parties are asked to contact M1 GT Racing.

M1 GT Racing would like to thank all of their 2016 partners and supporters. A special thank you to Audi Sport customer racing, Tampa Bay Jaw Surgery, Surgery Centers of America, JND Erectors, Global Precast, Connolly Marbles and Granite, Skyrider Equipment, Brite Con, Canadian Crane, Nutrend and Spyder Active Sports Wear.
