Automobility Awards Presented to Leaders in Automotive Technology

DETROIT, Oct. 17, 2016 -- The first-ever Automobility Awards were presented Wednesday, October 12th by Automotive Design & Production and AutoBeat Daily to five organizations that are driving the technology forward for autonomy and mobility.

The five recipients and their categories are:

  • Google Self-Driving Cars: Overall Achievement
  • Tesla Motors: Vehicle
  • Continental AG: Systems Development
  • NVIDIA: Technology
  • Mcity, University of Michigan Mobility Transformation Center

The judges for the awards were: Brett Smith of the Center for Automotive Research (CAR), John Waraniak of Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA), Dan Sturges of Local Motors, Bill Hampton of AutoBeat, and Gary Vasilash of Automotive Design & Production.

Vasilash said, "The rationale for why we created the awards is simple.  We believe that we are at a turning point in the history of the automotive industry, one that is being largely driven by technology.  We are seeing companies familiar and brand new developing the ways and means, the tools and the technologies, that are required to make autonomous mobility a full-blown reality.  And so we want to acknowledge their efforts."

The Automobility Awards ceremony was held at the Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn, Michigan.

Automotive Design & Production and AutoBeat Daily are both publications of Gardner Business Media.
