KRABILL SEALS THE DEAL AFTER RAIN-DELAYED RMR WIN
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - "Hollywood" Kris Krabill wrapped up the 2016 NHRA Heritage Series Nostalgia Funny Car Championship Saturday night in the rain-delayed "Summer Kick Off" event held at Rocky Mountain Raceways.
Krabill (Kent, WA), wheeling the "Austin and O'Brien" ride, topped Utah's Scott Stanger and 2014 Series Champ Dan Horan Jr. on the way to the money round. In the final, facing Canada's Ryan Hodgson, Krabill left first and never trailed, running a 5.977 elapsed time to Hodgson's trailing 6.057. For Kris, the championship has been 8 years in the making. He picked up victories earlier in the season at the Good Vibrations Motorsports March Meet and at the Ignitor at Firebird Raceway in Idaho.
The event, originally held June 10-11, brought 13 Funny Cars attempting to qualify for the 8 car field. 2015 Series Champion Steven Densham set a new track record during qualifying when he ran the Teacher's Pet entry through the high-altitude quarter mile in 5.815 seconds, placing him on top of the qualifying sheet. Early in the afternoon of June 11th, Mother Nature decided that all racing was going to be done as she unleashed a complete deluge upon the venue, forcing the reschedule.
Unfortunately for Densham, his event ended in the semifinals alongside Hodgson. Densham was out first for the early lead, but made contact with both quarter mile speed and ET cones in the center of the race track. Hodgson was well behind but was declared the winner of the round due to Densham's DQ.
