LOS ANGELES—TEN: The Enthusiast Network announced today the appointment of Mark Rechtin as Executive Editor of MOTOR TREND. Rechtin is an award-winning journalist who brings with him more than 25 years of experience in automotive, business, and consumer reporting. In his role as Executive Editor, Rechtin will help lead the production of world-class automotive content across all of Motor Trend platforms, from print and digital to video and social media, and take the brand’s signature editorial programs, Car of the Year, Truck of the Year, SUV of the Year, and Best Driver’s Car, to even greater heights.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mark Rechtin to the MOTOR TREND team,” says MOTOR TREND Editor-in-Chief Ed Loh. “It is not every day you can add an award-winning talent like Mark. He brings immense value and insight from his leadership of Consumer Reports automotive division and is well known and widely respected across the automotive industry for his sharp reporting and strong news sense.”

Rechtin comes from Consumer Reports, where for two years he was Content Development Team Leader for all automotive editorial content generated for both a 4 million-circulation magazine and a website with 3.2 million subscribers. As chief editor for all content coming from the organization’s 327-acre test track and from its subscriber survey involving 740,000 vehicle data points, Rechtin led an advocacy journalism effort in defense of consumers affected by unreliable vehicles, the Takata airbag recall, and the Volkswagen diesel emissions scandal. Both the April 2015 and 2016 Auto Issues he oversaw were nominated for Folio awards.

Prior to joining Consumer Reports, Rechtin served two decades as a reporter, bureau chief, and regional editor with Automotive News, a respected car-industry business publication. As an acknowledged expert and analyst covering the Japanese and Korean automakers, Rechtin held postings in Los Angeles, London, and Munich and won numerous prestigious journalism awards—including the Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Award for his 2013 body of work and multiple nods from the American Society of Business Press Editors and the Detroit Press Club.

Although a business reporter and editor by trade, at heart Rechtin is a motoring enthusiast who has restored a Datsun 240Z and owned numerous sports machines, including a Porsche 911, two BMW 3 Series sedans, an Alfa Romeo Spider, and a Ducati 748 motorcycle.

Rechtin is a graduate of Northwestern University with a bachelor’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism.
