The husband and wife Pro Stock Motorcycle stars posted their best combined qualifying results of the year, shrugging off the hottest conditions of the season to coolly lock up the third and 12th slots on the elimination grid. Team owner/rider/tuner Matt was the quicker of the two, pushing his flat-black Victory Gunner to the No. 3 position on the ladder with a stellar 6.854 at 194.58 mph. Angie followed with a comfortable 6.955 at 189.31 mph that leaves a bit of room to improve. "We are finally having a weekend where nothing is breaking on either bike," Matt said. "It feels great and I'm super happy for Victory and for all of our fans and supporters that have stuck by us. We knew we had the horsepower; these Gunners are for real. We just have had one little thing after the other messing with us. "There has been countless hours put into this team this season, and it's very satisfying to see it finally paying off. Our season totally turned for the better at last year's Norwalk race, and I hope that's exactly what is going to happen now. We are so ready." As the No. 3 qualifier, Matt will open Sunday's eliminations with lane choice over 14th-place Michael Ray, who topped out with a best pass of 6.969 at 194.16 mph. "We help Michael out, so we certainly know what that bike is capable of running," Matt said. "We'll need to be on our game tomorrow, against Michael and anyone else we might race. I'm relieved to have both of our Victorys in the show, but I'm not going to be happy until we see a bunch of win lights coming on." After her best pass, Angie was both happy and relieved to make the elimination field. On reflection, she also was excited about the gains that are yet to be made. "We're going to change the transmission out tonight," Angie said. "We need a little more out of my bike to give us a better chance of winning, and we know exactly what to do. It was really good to get down the track today, and hopefully we can repeat that tomorrow." Up first on Sunday, Angie will face No. 5 qualifier L.E. Tonglet, who put together a competitive 6.875 at 194.69 mph. "He's running well and it'll be a tough race," Angie admitted. "The good thing for us is that our best qualifying run happened with about the same type of hot conditions we expect we'll see tomorrow, so we have something to tune from. I'm so excited that Matthew and I are both qualified and we're on opposite sides of the ladder." Pro Stock Motorcycle eliminations start around 1 p.m., Sunday. The first two rounds of eliminations will air live on FOX Sports 1, with a three-hour recap later in the evening, beginning at midnight.
