Press release: E-type achieves double estimate and Triumphs triumph at Barons, Sandown Park

E-type achieves double estimate and Triumphs triumph
at Barons, Sandown Park

A 1964 Jaguar E-type S1 FHC achieved almost twice its £32,000 estimate when it sold for £63,800 at Barons at Sandown Park on June 4th.

The top ten cars at the sale included no less than four Triumphs, including a 1965 TR4A IRS that doubled top estimate. An unfinished, chassis-up restoration project, it needs very little work to complete and, with an estimate of £5,000-£8,000, was hotly fought over before the successful bidder secured it for £16,500.

Another strong seller was the superb 1967 Mercedes-Benz 250SL Pagoda which is in totally original condition after over 30 years in storage. It roared past estimate, selling for £47,300.

At the other end of the price spectrum, an enthusiast snapped up the unrestored 1968 Triumph Vitesse 2-litre ‘barn find’ for just £450, and can now settle into enjoying the restoration project.

Barons’ Auction Manager Tim Gascoigne said, “It’s another set of pleasing results for Barons, especially with us having such a busy year with so many sales on the calendar. We had a number of cars significantly exceed their estimates again, and we’re very much hoping that this trend will continue at the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts Club auction at Burghley House on 25th June and at the Barons Connoisseurs Classic Car Collection sale at Tattersalls at Newmarket on 12th July.”
