United Technologies Corporation and Supplier Partners Celebrate Inauguration of Three E-Learning Centers at Public Schools in Hyderabad and Bangalore, India

BANGALORE, May 9, 2016 --

United Technologies Corporation , Pratt & Whitney and its supplier partners celebrated the inauguration of three e-learning centers across India. The first inauguration was held in Bangalore on April 17, 2016, the second took place in Hyderabad on April 18, 2016 and the last also in Hyderabad on April 20, 2016. UTC, Pratt & Whitney and its supplier partners contributed more than $53,000 USD (33,64,000 INR) for the set-up of the e-learning centers, which will introduce school children to digital courses in the areas of math and science.

By establishing 24 e-learning centers since 2011, UTC is helping provide more than 3,500 students of Bangalore government schools, and 2,500 students of Hyderabad government schools, with access to a top-quality digital education in science, math and in current state curriculum. The centers are equipped with modern facilities, tools and technology to support both teachers and students. These resources include computers, wireless Internet, digital projectors, display screens, audio systems, software, subscriptions and furniture.

Dr. Michael McQuade, senior vice president, Science and Technology, United Technologies, said, "UTC and Pratt & Whitney are dedicated to supporting the communities in which we operate, and this especially includes local students. We want to ensure that from a young age they can acquire the skills and education that will enable a successful future. These e-learning centers will foster a digital education and empower a next generation of engineers, scientists and business professionals."

The project was executed by Engineers Without Borders India (EWB-India) and students from the University of Connecticut. In addition to UTC and Pratt & Whitney, United Technologies Research Center, Belcan, QuEST Global Engineering, Cyient, RGBSI, Genpact, CS Canada, and two individual donors provided financial support for the project.

Last year, UTC, Pratt & Whitney and its supplier partners donated $113,000 USD (71,72,000 INR) to construct a residential building for more than 100 girls at the Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust in Hyderabad, which included a new kitchen, dining hall and e-learning center, with further funding this year. Pratt & Whitney's support for the e-learning centers in Hyderabad and Bangalore builds on the charitable donations it has made in India over the last decade. Since 2004, Pratt & Whitney has made annual contributions to the Association Saikorian that now total more than $186,000 USD (1,18,05,000 INR), including this year's contribution of $105,000 (69,30,000 INR). Additionally, Pratt & Whitney has funded major projects with Project Krushi and two schools in Gowdavally, Hyderabad.
