Corvette in Spotlight at 3rd Annual IMRRC Model Car Show March 18-20; Corvette Expert Hyde Speaking on March 19

A Tribute To Dick "Goldie" Guldstrand And The Pioneers of Power & Speed

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. - Corvette is the featured marque of the 3rd Annual Model Car Show at the International Motor Racing Research Center Friday through Sunday, March 18-20. Both racing Corvettes and street Corvettes will be represented in all types and sizes of models at the show, which attracts more than 20 exhibitors. Thousands of cars will be displayed. Corvette expert Jan Hyde will speak on Saturday, March 19, at 1 p.m. Hyde is the founder of the Registry of Corvette Race Cars and is an accomplished model builder.

Admission to the show and to the talk is free. Show hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each of the three days. The Center is located at 610 S. Decatur St., Watkins Glen. The show and talk are part of the IMRRC's Center Conversations monthly speaker series. The Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce is a sponsor. Hyde's presentation will include a slide show of Corvette race cars and the models they inspired. Hyde's first Corvette was Frank Dominianni's # 69 Corvette race car, which he purchased from Dominianni in 1970, starting a first-hand love affair that blossomed into vintage racing and lasted more than three decades. "It was also a time that my career, helping raise a family and living in a big city took precedence over working on cars. Working on models instead was a great way to bond with the real things," Hyde said. "Since models can also be admired at home and the office, maybe that explains why most race car owners I run across would kill for replicas of the cars they race, or raced."

Hyde's Registry of Corvette Race Cars, founded in 2007, catalogs every Corvette entered in an official club race series, such as Sports Car Club of America, or professional race series, starting with production year 1956 through today. "The project has grown beyond expectations thanks to a legion of owners, drivers, enthusiasts, experts, photographers, artists, writers, fans and organizers we've worked with - fueled by the Internet," Hyde said. The Racing Research Center works closely with Hyde, often referring questions to him and the Registry and forging one of the Center's many mutually beneficial partnerships. "The IMRRC has been kind of a heaven for me since the day it opened," Hyde said.
