Interlagos, Nov. 25, 2012: As many of you know, NBC will broadcast F1 beginning with the 2012 season. Leigh Diffey, David Hobbs and Steve Matchett will host the broadcasts
“We are privileged to add not one, not two, but three experienced and respected voices to our Formula One coverage,” said Sam Flood, Executive Producer, NBC Sports and NBC Sports Network. “Leigh, David and Steve are all gifted storytellers, who live and breathe F1. They will educate viewers with their unique perspectives, which have been formed from longtime careers spent either behind the wheel, in the pits or in the booth.” The deal will be based on a four-year agreement. The network will provide programming across the NBC network, cable's NBC Sports Network and delivered across all nets plus the streamed NBC Sports Live Extra. Be prepared to experience bombastic and overwrought commentary from Diffy who is certainly not one of my favorite talking heads. He reminds me of a young Murrary Walker on steroids, and seems to believe that racing should be delivered like a WWE bout. As a result, one can only hope that Hobbs and Matchett will be able to bring some reasonable, and serious perspective to the American broadcasts. As for Varsha, bad joss there folks. Bob really anchored and fostered F1 in this country and nurtured the series' US interests while it worked through the growth of the modern TV motorsports era. Too bad that Fox is so upside down due to the cost of NASCAR, to allow the only truly international motorsports entertainment attraction to get away from them.
