BROOKLYN, July 18, 2011: With the success of several fund-raising events so far in 2011 and even more to come, Michigan International Speedway’s charitable arm, MIS Cares, is excited to award grants to area organizations at the end of this year.

The deadline for organizations to apply for an MIS Cares grant is Thursday, Sept. 1. Applications may be downloaded at www.MISpeedway.com/MISCares.

“We are having a banner year for fund-raising so we are excited to award grants to charities in need,” MIS Director of Government and Community Affairs Alisha Cottrell said. “We are expecting a very successful Fish Your Bass Off Tournament in a few weeks and other great fundraisers, so we are going to be able to help many organizations who are seeking assistance this year.”

MIS Cares donated more than $30,000 in grant donations to a number of area organizations and charities in 2010, including the Smiles on Wheels ($7,000), The Nature Conservancy ($5,000), Therapeutic Riding Inc. ($5,000), St. Mary of Good Counsel ($4,800), City of Jackson Human Relations Commission/MS Challenge Project ($2,500), Family Counseling & Children’s Services/Catherine Cobb Domestic Violence Shelter ($2,000), Hillside Middle School in Northville ($1,900) and Columbia Middle School Transitions Class ($1,800).

All applications will be reviewed and organizations will be contacted if they are awarded a grant from MIS Cares. All 501(c)(3) charitable organizations located in the United States are eligible, but preference will be given to local organizations.

The success of fund-raising efforts such as the Fish Your Bass Off Tournament, scheduled for Aug. 18, and other fundraising campaigns including NASCAR Day pin sales, the Extreme Bus Makeover and other auctions through the NASCAR Foundation, gives MIS Cares funding to spread among many area charitable organizations this year.

MIS Cares’ mission is to create a lasting, positive impact on the local community through charitable giving and volunteer efforts that cultivate community growth and advances the quality of life.
