DAYTONA BEACH, June 29, 2011: Barry Beggarly is just out there to have fun. That fun could turn into a tryout for Joe Gibbs Racing at the end of the season.

Beggarly, the 61-year-old Late Model point leader at Ace Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Altamahaw, NC, continues to be the overall leader in the Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track National Championship with an average of 2.1367. But he is only 0.0038 ahead of Shelby Stroebel, the current point leader in the ASA Modified division at Meridian Speedway in Meridian, ID. Stroebel has an average of 2.1329.

Beggarly has had a great racing career so far. He is a 1993 NASCAR Weekly Series National Champion and a 1994 Regional Champion. He took a few years off but came back to race at Ace Speedway last season.

"They have some good people at Ace Speedway," Beggarly said. "Brad Allen has done a great job there. They have some good car counts and great crowds. I am out there just to have fun. I have nothing to prove."

Beggarly also enjoys the young competition he is facing. One person that he has been battling with the last few weeks has been Jeb Burton, son of 2002 Daytona 500 Champion Ward Burton. "It has been good racing with him. He is gaining experience and has some great equipment underneath him," Beggarly said. "Heck, I remember racing with his dad and Jeff at South Boston and Orange County."

Ace Speedway's Promoter Brad Allen noted that Beggarly is like a modern day David Pearson and his nickname is the "Southern Gentleman." When Beggarly was asked about the nickname, he chuckled. "They are trying to put that on me," he said. "All I can say is that if you race clean with me and I will race with you clean. If you want to race dirty, I won't be afraid to get dirty with you."

Beggarly isn't slowing down either as he won one of the twin 50-lap features last Friday night.

Stroebel continues to hold a 193-point lead over Chris Fenton in the ASA Modified point standings at Meridian Speedway.

Ken Dickinson continues to hold a 30-point lead over Chrissy Wallace in the Late Model point standings at Lebanon I-44 Speedway in Lebanon, MO. Wallace won the feature last Saturday night.

Dickinson is still third overall with an average of 1.9382 in the National Standings.

Tyler Whetstone is fourth overall with an average of 1.8983. He continues to lead the Maverik Modifieds standings at Rocky Mountain Raceways in West Valley City, UT.

David Flynn picked up the feature win last Saturday night in the Late Model Sportsman division at Newport Motor Speedway in Newport, TN. He holds a three-point lead over Wayne Webb in the track standings. He is fifth overall in the National Standings with an average of 1.8277.

Ryan Stiltner continues to dominate the Charger division at Lonesome Pine Raceway in Coeburn, VA as he won another feature this past Saturday night. Not only that, but he also won the Late Model feature as well. That Late Model victory will not be included in the National Standings. He has an average of 1.3551.

Mike Reichenberger is the new point leader in the Late Model division at Norway Speedway in Norway, MI. He finished second in the feature last Friday night. He has an average of 1.2676.

Mark Shackleford leads the Super Late Model standings at Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino, CA. They will be in action this Saturday night. He has an average of 0.8975.

Mark Mackesy competed in the ASA Midwest Tour event at State Park Speedway last Friday night and won. Suffice to say, the race was a special event and not part of the National Championship. He has an average of 0.8404.

"It is still early, but we have a close battle for the National Championship," Dennis Huth, ASA President said. "With this being the Fourth of July weekend, the racing action at our ASA Member Tracks will be awesome. Many fans will probably see fireworks in the air and on the tracks. We hope everyone includes an ASA Racing event as part of their holiday plans."
