Bakersfield, June 8, 2011: Auto Club Famoso Raceway Announces Summer Schedule Changes

Auto Club Famoso Raceway announced today that it is canceling two of the three Saturday Night Nitro shows scheduled for this summer. The June 25th and July 23rd Saturday Night Nitro shows have been removed from the schedule due to the financial strain the track would be faced with when promoting shows of this nature.

Blake Bowser, Auto Club Famoso Raceway track manager explains: “Unfortunately we are going to have to scale back on our summer plans. We don't like doing this, but our March Meet was a break even and we lost money hosting our Lucas Oil Division Race. Because of this we have to cut back. The Saturday Night shows are something new and they are going to take some time and money to establish. We were hoping to have some sponsors lined up to take care of the financial challenges that come with promoting new events like this, but that didn't happen as well. We waited as long as we could before canceling the shows hoping we could find a way to pay for the events. We haven't cut all of the planned shows entirely. We are going to keep the September 10th show on the schedule.”

“We are going to use some of the budget that was to be spent on the June and July shows and make September 10th a really great event! I have talked to a lot of the Nostalgia Funny Car guys and they understand the situation and are ready for September. We have also talked to some Nitro Fuel Altereds about running at the September show as well. We hope to have some Jet Cars and Wheelstanders booked also.”

The track will continue to have a full summer schedule hosting events such as; West Coast Hot Rod, ANRA, Summit ET Races as well as Friday Night Test and Tunes.

The Kern County Racing Association operates Auto Club Famoso Raceway (just north of Bakersfield, Calif.) and promotes a full schedule of races year round, including the world famous March Meet, which is recognized as the Mecca of nostalgia drag racing.
