Daly's miles; Alabama-Barcelona-Long Beach In 10 Days

MAZDASPEED driver, Conor Daly is currently one of the most active open wheel drivers in America having travelled more than 8000 miles since the opening round of the Firestone Indy Lights championship in St. Petersburg, Florida, April 27th. After proving to be the fastest Indy Lights driver on race day (fastest in warm up - fastest race lap) and finishing in second place on the streets of St Petersburg, Daly then completed three days of GP3 testing in Silverstone, England, March 29th-31st. In an eleven day spell, Daly was in a race car for eight of those days on two different continents.

In Silverstone, Daly appeared on the top of the GP3 time charts for the first time this season when he was fastest during the wet Thursday morning session. “We are fast in the wet but not as good yet in the dry”, said Daly. “The car is so different to the Indy Lights car that it takes me a little time to re-acclimatize myself to the very different environments”.

Daly’s focus now turns to the second round of the Road to Indy, Firestone Indy Lights championship at Barber Motorsports Park, Alabama, April 8th - 10th. “St Pete was a blast for me. My engineer, Chris Finch, did a great job to give me a car that I really enjoyed driving. I struggled a little in testing at Barber but I know a lot more about the car now after the pre season testing”, said Daly. “I can’t wait to get to Alabama. With fast teammates like Esteban Guerrieri and Josef Newgarden we can share information to help each other”.

Immediately after the Indy Lights race, Daly will pack in the air miles again as he squeezes in three more days of GP3 testing in Barcelona, Spain between two consecutive Firestone Indy Lights weekends, Alabama and Long Beach. “I had the option to drop the Long Beach race but it is such a mega event that I wanted to do everything possible to race there - even if I have to crisscross the Atlantic Ocean again”, said Daly. “We will have a doctor available in Long Beach if needed for any reason and I will be as prepared as possible before I even leave home”.

In a ten day spell between Alabama and Long Beach, Daly will be in a race car for nine of those ten days on two different continents.

Conor Daly is the reigning Road to Indy Formula Star Mazda champion. He is competing in the European GP3 series and a limited program in the Firestone Indy Lights championship.
