JUPITER, Feb. 24, 2011: Tate Holleran, slowed by mechanical gremlins, finished 11th in both main events in the Formula Vortex TaG Cadet class of the Florida Winter Tour Formula Kart championship last weekend (Feb. 19-20) on Palm Beach International Raceway’s .8-mile kart track.

“We had an intermittent electrical problem all weekend,” Rob Holleran, Tate’s father, said. “We were never able to solve it. Even with motor problems, Tate was able to finish 11th on Saturday and Sunday. He drove his little heart out, did fantastic considering the circumstances.”

The 10-year-old from Denver, Colo., qualified eighth on Saturday and 11th on Sunday. Holleran drove a FA Kart powered by a 60cc Vortex Mini-Rok engine on MG tires for Phil Giebler Racing.

With four rounds completed, Holleran is seventh in the championship with 604 points. The Florida Winter Tour’s final two rounds will be held March 18-20 at the Ocala (Fla.) Gran Prix.
