Kinetic Retires BMW After Race Accident at Daytona

January 29, 2011: Daytona Beach, Florida…The #33 Kinetic Motorsports BMW M3 E92 of Jade Buford and Bryan Sellers suffered a big collision in the GRAND-AM 200 race at Daytona International Speedway today. Although they were able to continue racing briefly, despite getting airborne and shattering the rear windshield, the damages eventually got the best of the BMW.

The team had a good race start by qualifying driver Jade Buford from the 11th position in the Grand Sport (GS) class. He had moved the newly built E92 forward six positions when another BMW missed braking into Turn One and rear-ended the him. After pitting to access the damage, co-driver Bryan Sellers took the wheel and was able to add another twenty laps before having to retire due to residual effects from the accident damage.

Jade Buford, driver #33 Kinetic Motorsports BMW M3 E92: “The team did a great job. The car was fantastic. It was just unfortunate about the incident that happened to us. It was nobody’s fault, no driver error. We were just at the wrong place at the wrong time. We started 11th and were able to work out way up to fifth just on the speed of the car alone. About 35 minutes into the race, just coming into Turn One at Daytona, one of the cars must have missed a brake pedal or something and slammed into the rear of us and sent us backwards. The car went a little airborne and shattered the rear window. It appears to have damaged the axle and other parts. The car had to retire after that.

“I’m really happy with the way everything went early on with the limited time we had in practice to do a proper set-up on the car. The team worked really hard to get the car ready for the race. They did a fantastic job. I cannot be happier and am looking forward to a good season. We’re going to have some work cut out for us with this competitive series.”

Bryan Sellers, driver #33 Kinetic Motorsports BMW M3 E92: “It ended up being a pretty tough day although it started off pretty well. Jade was up to fifth in the car from qualifying 11th. He did a great job moving forward and it looked like it was moving the way it needed to be. Unfortunately, one of the BimmerWorld cars looked like it decided not to brake and completed destroyed the rear of the car, the windshield, the exhaust, you name it. He came into the pits and I was able to get in the car. The pace was actually pretty good with all those problems being there but eventually the damage just took its effect. He got hit so hard in the rear, it hurt the upright, it hurt the driveshaft some, the wheel studs and more. The wheel actually ended up almost falling off because there were only two studs left. It was a pretty rough day for everybody on the BMW crew.”
