Third-generation drag racer Troy Coughlin Jr. will soon strap on his helmet and begin his 2011 campaign at the IHRA's season-opening Palm Beach Nitro Jam, which runs from Jan. 28-29 at Palm Beach International Raceway in southeast Florida.

The son of Troy Coughlin, grandson of Hall of Famer Jeg Coughlin Sr., and nephew of John, Mike, and Jeg Coughlin Jr. -- all drag racing champions in their own right -- Troy Jr. knows it's a big deal to carry his family name into any event.

And thanks to the Internet, he can always look back with fondness on the legacy he's inherited, like this interesting time-capsule piece from the 1985 IHRA Summer Nationals at Edgewater Park in Ohio where Marty Reid caught up with Jeg Sr.
