ORLANDO, Jan. 24, 2011: Tate Holleran of Denver, Colo., finished fourth and fifth in the Formula Vortex TaG Cadet main events of the Florida Winter Tour Formula Kart championship last weekend (Jan. 15-16) at the Orlando Kart Center.

Holleran, a 10-year-old from Denver, Colo., was fourth Sunday in a field of 22 starters. He started from sixth position.

Driving for Phil Giebler Racing in a FA Kart powered by a 60cc Vortex Mini-Rok engine on MG tires, Holleran was fifth in the field of 22 Saturday. He qualified in fifth position, averaging 45.506 mph on the .6995-mile track.

“The competition was phenomenal,” Rob Holleran, Tate’s father, said. “There were drivers from all over the United States and some from South America. Tate didn’t have any laps since the SuperNationals (last Nov. 23) and he drove very well.”

Holleran is fifth in the championship with 365 points, 110 behind leader Devin DeFrancesco. Holleran will compete in entire six-event series. The Florida Winter Tour’s next stop is a two-event weekend at Palm Beach International Raceway Feb. 18-20 and it concludes with two events at the Ocala Gran Prix on March 18-20.
